REVISED REVIEW: Female domination (femdom) - a guide book

Chloé Hornett makes what appears to be her debut in writing with this tasty little bit of naughty erotica. She knows her craft – and she knows her audience. But what is more than that she has a unique way of building a story line, introducing characters is a very clever and subtle manner so that you really don’t appreciate they are part of the ‘lesson plan’ of the title until she finished her novel with spunk.

In Erotica books he author either catches the attention in the first few paragraphs or falls victim to the fast scan search for the steam sections and forgetting about the story line. Chloé dispels that flaw with a zinger of an opening paragraph: ‘A greasy hotel bar. Like most of its occupants, living off former glories - and finding itself overdrawn. But now Venecia walks into the room, and it changes. Becomes charged. The people in the room change too, like someone has released nerve gas into the air conditioning. I mean, she’s beautiful. And not in a delicate way. In a raw, firm, round, bouncy way. Conversations drop to a chatter, punctuated by the occasional clink of glasses. Then that self-consciously trails off too. The husbands in the room try not to notice her. The wives arch their eyebrows and share silent sympathies. Intelligent, witty, and oh so very hot!

First of all, I was attracted to the title and cover of this book. It displayed just the right combination of eroticism, humor, and 1950s irony with a heavy wink toward the femdom genre.

Femdom novels can be problematic. When it’s nothing but wham-bam by the ma’am (natch!), it feels a little cartoony. When erotica utilizes a power exchange as its basis of eroticism, I prefer to have it presented in a way that is a little more human and nuanced. I like to be able to feel what is happening to the mind as well as the body.

This book certainly delivers on that front. Yes, Venecia Noir, the ultimate femme fatale who teaches young Sadie the joys of femdom, is a bit over the top (her name reminded me of the Latin phrase “veni, vidi, vici). But the way Sadie and her powerful millionaire boyfriend John navigate Venecia’s lessons expresses the type of sensual and emotional vulnerability, trust, and respect that is the heart of the femdom genre.

Along with the humanity and humor, this book has a ton of, well, sex! And it is truly hot and beautifully written. The physical imagery comes alive in the reader’s mind, but it is in the description of the emotional reactions where this erotica shines.

Highly recommended for those who like their femdom with loads of intelligence, wit, and heart.

Author Chloe Hornett brings erotica to brand new heights in How to Train A Man in Seven Easy Lessons. If your plan is to start out by reading the first few chapters, forget it. Spending time reading the day away (at least for me), is considered a luxury. Well I luxuriated anyway. Hornett's book is based on central character Sadie Ash who is oh so endearing, not in the kind of way that's memorable. This young woman just has so much living to do. It all changes on the day that she crosses paths with the very rich and successful John Domino. No spoiler, but what's to come will be downright titillating and every good-girl gone bad fantasy. Unexpected and erogenous, it's not just what Sadie learns about sex, the true shocker will be from who. Two thumbs up for a well written read that also promotes women empowerment.

A Superb Textbook!

Death, Society, and the Human Experience is a wonderful textbook! I have been using it in my class The Sociology of Death and Dying for the past four years. This book provides the information necessary to any real understanding and examination of societal assumptions and attitudes toward death and dying. It not only enhances the knowledge of the student but provides the groundwork for new readers in the field. The book is a beautiful presentation of stimulating facts that will help everyone confront death and dying in a more personal and lasting manner.

Boring, schizophrenic, do not buy

Wow. This is a really boring textbook that merely rambles on and on without specificity. Much of what it talks about is talked about in a vacuum with random examples from all over the place. Kastenbaum is trying to talk about death in a way that is universal in structure and that is the first fallacy towards a boring text. This is old school structural-functionalist approach to writing about experience in the world.

Leave this book at the bookstore. Go for other texts.

Soon Y. Warren is an award-winning artist and teacher. She is a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, Southern Watercolor Society, Texas Watercolor Society, Purple Sage Brush, Alabama Watercolor Society and Society of Watercolor Artists. Her work has been in Watercolor Artist magazine, The Artist's Magazine and four editions of Splash: The Best of Watercolor. She is the author of two books, Vibrant Flowers in Watercolor (North Light, 2006) and Painting Vibrant Watercolors (North Light, 2009). Wonderful Even for Newbies

First, I should make clear that I am just getting started in watercolors. I got Painting Vibrant Watercolors by Soon Y. Warren as a long term plan. I figured I probably couldn't master her techniques right away - but that this would give me inspiration about what to work toward. It would also help me make sure I developed good habits by the beginning.

I was quite pleasantly surprised, in that I wasn't sure it would have a lot of "getting started" material for me. In fact, compared with several other books I got, this one is wonderful in some of its introductory material. Warren is encouraging and gentle. She encourages you to keep learning, to accept mistakes as the way to grow, to develop a personal palette, and to chart your own path.

She provides a wealth of practical advice. She shows visuals of how the exact same "named" color from different vendors can look quite different. She talks about developing your own color chart for this reason. She has gorgeous examples of lighting, reflections, surfaces, and more. She explains the differences between different types of paint choices with clear visuals.

Then she has step by step tutorials, with images shown of each stage, of how she creates her images.

I was quite pleased. I thought I'd have to hold onto this book as something I could use much later in my growth - but there was a great deal of information which was useful and helpful right away. I can also see that the book will be quite helpful even after I've been painting for a while.

Highly recommended for people at all stages of using watercolors.

Beautiful, useful, an inspirational book!

At first I browesed the stunning paintings that are photographed in this wonderful book. Then I began reading and rereading all the basic information on value, composition, types of watercolor paints, paper,and all the tips on materials. No, I don't think I can create such luminous and award-winning paintings as Soon Warren has in her book. But they are so beautifully done, it is an inspiration to me, and I want to try to create something of my own. Love this book and will be refering to it for many months and years to come. Thank you, Soon for sharing your wonderful art!

The first reviewer of this book obviously has only a scientific/academic perspective on the topics for which he/she criticizes this book. Anyone with any genuine expertise in Soon Warren's techniques would know that: 1) The metal powder she uses is always applied within a clear acrylic medium. This prevents oxygen from reaching virtually all of the metal, the source, by definition, of oxidization; and 2) the studies that "prove" fading of the Winsor & Newton colors Aureolin and Permanent Alizarin Crimson do not shield the paint from the deleterious effects of UVA and UVB radiation. Since all well framed watercolor paintings use special glass, which shields the painting from the damaging portions of light spectra, the colors do not fade. It's unfortunate that Amazon.com allows such irresponsible reviews written by those without the experience, expertise, and knowledge necessary to create a thoughtful and accurate description!

This book truly is an amalgam of easy to understand theory and descriptions of painting techniques honed to perfection by years of creating top-award winning works. Any watercolor painter from beginner to expert would benefit from this book.

Beautiful inside and out. A treasure.

I can't tell you what the book means to me. I can’t do it justice in a review; this is the best I could come up with.

This book was very different than I thought it would be so, for anyone deciding whether to buy it, here is what you can expect:

What this book is NOT: it's not just a teen book; anyone who is dealing with the loss of a loved one, or who is facing death themselves (as we all are), could benefit from the wisdom contained in it.

It's not a tear-jerker (although I did cry a few times).

It doesn't include a lot of details about dying from cancer. The journal starts in May '08 and Nur's mother dies in July. Nur keeps writing until the beginning of Sept but then gives up writing until 2 years after she started it. The second part covers the same months as the first part, May through Sept, but two years later in 2010. So, her mother's sickness and death span 2 months out of 8 total. And even those two months just don't have many medical details. It's not a nitty-gritty, reality book about dying of cancer.

It's not a 'something bad happened to you, so you can be bad' book. the characters do not use tragedy as an excuse for bad behavior.
It does not contain any foul language or outright disrespect or disobedience. Considering the state of modern 'literature' for almost all ages, this has to be said. For muslims, there is nothing in this book that a kid cannot read on their own.

What this book IS: a beautiful story filled with wisdom, and so real, so exactly true-to-life, that it was like I was reliving the days and nights when my husband died 2 months ago. The descriptions, thoughts, feelings, reactions, events are almost exactly as we experienced.

I would say this book is exemplary, which is what i look for in what my children read so that they may have something to live up to. And Nur is a wonderful character; if she were real I would like her to be my daughters' friend. (I have two girls around Nur's age.)
It is beautiful and comforting, yet challenging, in that it calls upon us to reexamine our thoughts about death.

It is inspired and inspiring, especially the parallel that the author draws between the death of the chrysalis and the awakening of the soul as its wings expand.

It is a quick read, finished in an hour or two, but I do plan on rereading it, maybe reading one entry per day, so that I can really absorb the messages.

The book is beautiful and well-bound on heavy paper. Our copy has been read 3 times and still looks brand new. The cover design shows the two worlds of Nur: Toronto and Istanbul, represented by little skylines in the bottom corners, and the two worlds of us all, the dunya and the akhira, the chrysalis and butterfly.

I'm grateful to have this type of literature available for my kids (and me!) to read. And i pray for success for the author and publisher so that they can produce more works for our benefit. And i pray that we don't just read it but do really use it for our benefit.

Loved it!

I couldn't put this down once I started reading it and finished the whole thing within several hours... I did stay up just a little bit past my bedtime :). It was a really enjoyable read overall, but it also made me cry a few times, though all of Mehded Maryam Sinclair's stories tend to get me emotional here and there. By the end of the book, I was a little surprised by the story finishing so soon... maybe I'm just used to reading relatively super long books (e.g. Dickens, Gaskell, etc!) that deal with children who come of age, so I wanted to hear more about what was going to happen next!

I love that the book focuses on parent-child/family relationships and friendship... it's a great, wholesome alternative to all the junky young adult novels out there that are obsessed with romance/sex, violence, disrespecting authority, narcissism, etc... o yes, and vampires or zombies!

I highly recommend this book to anyone, but especially to any adolescent reader who needs some perspective after dealing with a loss in the family. While she is Muslim and mixed Turkish, the emotional development of the main character in the book would be relevant to any young person, regardless of their gender, religion, or ethnic background. I am really lookiing forward to reading more from this author in the future.

Loved it, great read for all ages.

This book kept me hooked onto it and I would look forward to reading it everyday!

It is so full of beautiful lessons- something that readers of all ages and backgrounds can benefit from. It sort of brings you back home, on what it means to be a true Muslim and being a servant of Allah Almighty is all about.

The way the author wrote the book makes all of it feel so real. If you're feeling lost and are looking for a renovation in your perspective on life- do give this book a read.

Something I couldn't help thinking all the while was that- Allah SWT has truly blessed this author to be able to write something so beautiful like this and teach the beautiful message of Islam in this manner.

I hope Sister Maryam writes more books, especially for the older ages as I can't imagine how much more wonderful content she may come up with for that demographic as even with a book that may be seen as primarily centered for children and perhaps teens- she did such a wonderful job nonetheless that it is a piece all ages can come to benefit from.

Wonderful to have all these facts and resources in one place

Binhi, a scientist using scientific analysis, has created the book that many people interested in mind control or electromagnetic influencing have been waiting for. This means both the scientific and the victim communities.

There really isn't a book like it. It's the (currently) definitive account of what, broadly, has been going on in what is often called "mind control". The amazing American woman who has in the past been most involved in getting science-grade resources like this out to the public is Cheryl Welsh, and her associated website [...] has excellent supplementary analyses.

For more than half a century, political groups have been using electronic and psychological control of individuals and families to advance their agendas. Partly in defence against it, governments have been experimenting. The results have often been stolen from the taxpayer and turned "black" so fast that the taxpayer who paid for it really never received the benefit. In some cases, he found it being used against him, and his own family.

Binhi's book gives the science-based history, lists journal articles (good bibliography), and collects together other resources. He stands aside from the experiences of actual victims, not quite making the controversial judgement that "yes, these things are indeed happening", but he does them, too, a big service.

The book is capable of misuse. It could be sought out as a way to help exploiters and manipulators (think every shady intelligence or covert action operation in the world, including many that don't follow national boundaries). But that's science for you. That's how knowledge works. And criminal types are already out there using it. Untold damage is resulting to our society.

The thousands of people who are victims of mind control, electronic harassment, or deliberate electromagnetic influencing, will I think (if their functioning is not too damaged to read for long periods) find this a wonderful help. Even if they are too disabled by the (usually) daily torture to read large chunks of it, it's a book for reference.

Neverthless Binhi, standing aside, doesn't come out and say, "Yes, I agree with the victims". He gathers up massively useful facts and bits of history, but he stays aloof.

Faults? He ignores synergistic effects. I guess they are too difficult, because in science they are commonly ignored. He tends to expect victims to offer a correct account of who is doing it and how they are doing it (unreasonable). (It's unfair to ask the victim of an invisible crime to describe the perpetrator and say how it is being done. Obviously, distressed and disabled, victims will make some mistakes.)

But this is a jewel of a book for its summation of useful facts. If you can afford it, grab it.
